City Manager

Atlantis is hiring City Managers (Student Coordinators) to manage pre-health abroad observation programs across Europe this spring/summer of 2024. The Student Coordinator will be assigned to a city in several locations for this coming summer.

Atlantis is an education abroad organization based in Washington, D.C., USA which provides innovative educational programs that broaden academic perspectives, promote global awareness, and encourage personal development while laying the foundation for pre-med/pre-pa/pre-health students.

The Atlantis operations team develops international programs for college and university students across the United States. These programs vary in duration, location, and activities in cooperation with hospitals across Europe, Africa and Latin America. Our mission is to equip the next generation of medical leaders to pursue their callings passionately and to strengthen connections between healthcare professionals internationally. Atlantis does this by connecting international doctors and American students through hospital clinical shadowing observational programs.

Job Description

This position is a seasonal, full-time, contract position, functioning as part of the operations team and reporting to the Senior Operations Team specializing in the designated country. The primary role of this position is to facilitate the in-country implementation of the assigned customized program and provide safety/emergency support as needed. During the programs, the City Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day logistics of the assigned programs and providing in-country support to the Atlantis student’s currently on-program. You may be working individually or on a team in your assigned program location. This position is contracted for the duration of the assigned programs.

Main Responsibilities

Pre-program:

  • Complete the required 6 day in-person training prior to the program in Alicante, Spain
  • Communicate with the assigned Senior Operations Team member to review the program and program details
  • Meet with hospital contacts, housing providers, meal providers, and excursion providers to organize and finalize details for each program in your assigned location
  • Connect and participate in preparation calls ahead of program arrivals 
  • Prepare welcome materials for students
  • Send out email communication to the students, hospital, participating departments, and doctors
  • Send Whatsapp messages to students 
  • Check program logistics
  • Other duties as assigned

During program:

  • Provide in-country orientation for students
  • Facilitate all logistical aspects of the program including transportation, planned excursions and tours, group meals, hospital shadowing rotations, and accommodations for each program in your assigned location
  • Manage group on-site funds, budgets, payments, and receipts 
  • Travel with the group to all scheduled destinations, events, and Atlantis-planned activities
  • Serve in a 24/7 on-call capacity, facilitating emergency protocol if necessary
  • Engage and communicate with students about their shadowing experience, engage in sharing your knowledge of the public healthcare system in your assigned location/country, and other cultural components to enrich the overall experience the students have while on the program
  • Send out email communication to the students, hospital, participating departments, and doctors
  • Take photos and videos daily to share with the Senior Operations Team
  • Create a positive and flexible environment throughout the program
  • Communicate with the assigned Senior Operations Team member daily with status updates on the group
  • Other duties as assigned

Post Program

(You will need to complete a full offboarding process upon completion of your programs)

  • Ensuring all your expenses reports and financial reporting has been completed accurately
  • Completion of feedback forms 
  • Ensuring accurate records have been completed in regards to key contacts and partners in our database
  • Other duties as assigned

Candidate Profile

  • Must have excellent organization, communication, community development, interpersonal and time management skills
  • Must have excellent character, be a role model, be trustworthy, and able to easily work across cultures
  • Must exhibit strong judgment and decision-making skills and be comfortable with mediation and confrontation
  • Must be a team player and be visible and accessible to the Atlantis students
  • Must be able to handle crisis management, demonstrate negotiation skills, and interpretation/enforcement of the Atlantis policies and procedures
  • Must be able to represent Atlantis with enthusiasm, integrity, accuracy, professionalism, and in the spirit of its mission
  • International study, internship, work, and/or volunteer experience preferred
  • Experience managing groups, work with American students preferred
  • Interested in working with college students (and sometimes faculty) in an international environment
  • Attained a bachelor’s or equivalent university degree
  • Must be fluent in English and local languages, written and verbal communication

Employment Terms: Programs run from May to August 2024. The City Manager will also take part in a 6-day Project Planning Course that will take place in mid-April in Alicante, Spain.
