Cultural Immersion

I could not have been more impressed with Atlantis and their staff. I have never before witnessed host hospitals so excited to be working with pre-med students. The quality, combination of experiences, and intention of the program is so evident... Atlantis comes with my highest recommendation, and I look forward to a long working relationship and many student group trips in the future.

Getting to go side-by-side with a doctor and see what the life of a neurosurgeon is actually like has been very helpful.

DAMI ONI-ORISAN

In the US, there are few hospitals that allow shadowing of surgeons and physicians, and even fewer that allow you to be in the operating room seeing everything the medical providers see. For those unsure of their career path in medicine, this is the best thing to figure out if the hospital life is for you.

Born in Yugoslavia, George Bugarinovic is the oldest child of Serbian immigrants. Seeking better opportunities, his family moved to Kansas City. His parents’ composure through life-threatening illness coupled with the example of their physicians, planted a seed that led George to pursue an MD from Harvard Medical School and apply for residency in orthopedic surgery. While earning a BA at Johns Hopkins University, George captained the men’s basketball team & went to Spain with Atlantis.

First 30 minutes: George will speak about how to discern whether med school is right for you, and then speak about discerning which specialty might be for you.
Second 30 minutes: George will answer attendees' questions about med school, medicine, & more.
